The French State encourages the retrofit trend

How can you extend the lifetime of your old vehicles?

Since April 2020 in France, as it was previously the case in other European countries, the conversion of thermal vehicles into electric vehicles is allowed, in order to make them more environmentally friendly. This process is called "retrofit".

Carried out by professionals approved by the Technical Union for the Automobile, Motorcycle and Cycle Industries (UTAC), such a transformation has many advantages.

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and lifting of traffic restrictions on polluting vehicles
  • Lower maintenance and usage costs
  • Extended vehicle lifespan by about 10 years

Choosing an electric motor also extends the life of the vehicle by about 10 years. This transition, which must respect a very strict protocol, can even benefit, under certain conditions, from a state subsidy of between 2,500 € and 5,000 €. In some regions and cities, local subsidies may also be granted. The technical constraints position the French market as the safest and most reliable retrofit market in the world.

Since its creation, SIG Energy Technology is involved in projects related to the retrofit and develops solutions to make their projects a success. As such, the company is a member of AVERE (National Association for the Development of Electric Mobility) as well as AVEM (Association for the Future of the Electro-mobile Vehicle).
