SIG and the progress of tomorrow’s green projects

The Lithium-ion battery sector is still young but is evolving rapidly, particularly in terms of available technologies and possible applications. SIG Energy Technology chooses to design and distribute high quality cells, to advise the industrialists of the sector but also to support the students in their research.

The company wants to be an actor in the transmission, the sharing and the enrichment of knowledge for the generations to come. Thus, SIG Energy Technology proposes engineering services to Universities and Grandes Ecoles related to the samples provided within the framework of their own studies and objectives.

Motivations of SIG Energy Technology

The company wishes to be in accordance with its slogan which defines it for 7 years now: "SIG ENERGY TECHNOLOGY, Technology in harmony with nature". It is both concerned and involved in the environmentally friendly technologies of tomorrow. Also aware that the future is being built every day, it encourages young people to bring a fresh look and innovative ideas in renewable energies. SIG Energy Technology welcomes every year trainees from the 3rd grade to the engineering schools.

Partnership fields

The company is made up of a close-knit team on a human scale, which focuses on 3 activities: cell design & distribution, engineering consulting and support in research & development. Thanks to numerous interactions with schools SIG strengthens its position in research related to electric mobility and stationary storage.

Among the technological projects and automotive student challenges that SIG supports, we can mention those of :

  • Paris-Saclay University: Thanks to the cells provided by SIG Energy Technology, students supervised by Pr. Franger, Research Professor in electrochemistry, are carrying out cell tests (in parallel to ours) in order to feed their research topics, develop their knowledge and consolidate their expertise/knowledge in the field. The company participated in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC: open type of distance learning capable of accommodating a large number of participants) with the subject "electrochemical energy storage in batteries for mobility". This MOOC has been designed for students of Bachelor and Master level but also for technicians, engineers and all people interested in energy applications.
  • ISAT Electric Rally Car: is one of the technological student projects of ISAT, a public school of automotive and transport engineers attached to the University of Burgundy. Its objective is to design and manufacture the first 100% electric and 100% student rally car. The project is part of the modernization of motor sports. SIG Energy Technology provides cells to design complex batteries since their field of operation induces a problem of rapid discharge. The rally car is presented at fairs and exhibitions.
  • Top Dutch Solar Racing: is a Dutch multidisciplinary solar racing team founded in 2017. It is not linked to a technical university, the team members study at various higher education institutions. Their goal is to build the most efficient solar car and represent the north of the Netherlands in various solar challenges. SIG Energy Technology supplies the team with lithium-ion cells for the design of the battery pack. Note that at the Solar Challenge Morocco held in Morocco in October 2021, the team won the qualifying race with the fastest lap and proudly finished in fourth place.
